Optional: Go Further

This lesson is intended for players who already know some of these concepts and want to connect this Keystone Lick to more of the fretboard. If any of this feels unfamiliar, you can move on and return later.

Ways to Expand the Lick

1. Target the Chord Changes
Use your interval knowledge to choose notes from the lick that target the I, IV, and V chords more deliberately.

2. Mix Major and Minor
Connect the lick to the rest of your minor pentatonic scale. For example, try ascending with the major lick and descending through minor pentatonic.

3. Find Another Location
Move the lick to another useful area of the neck. It won’t work equally well in every box or position, so focus on the locations demonstrated in the lesson.

4. Connect What You Already Know
If you already know these shapes, try connecting the lick to:

  • Your familiar arpeggio shapes and arpeggio lines
  • The B.B. Box
  • The surrounding minor pentatonic scale
