The Major Resolve Keystone Lick is a compact Root β†’ 5th β†’ Major 6th β†’ Root phrase that creates a clear major resolution, moves easily around the neck, and connects naturally with the Classic Major Keystone Lick.

Anchor the Lick

This lick sits almost entirely inside Box 1 minor pentatonic, making it very easy to visualize and remember. Anchor the phrase to the root and notice how the Root and 5th already fall naturally inside the box.

The one note that steps outside the minor pentatonic shape is the Major 6th. That small departure from the box gives the lick its clear major-pentatonic color before resolving back to the root.

You should become comfortable moving from the β™7 in Pentatonic Box 1 (D string, 6th fret) to the Major 6thΒ (D string, 5th fret) just outside the box.

Why This Lick Is So Useful

It can work as a resolution or as a complete phrase on its own.
