The Classic Minor Lick is valuable because it demonstrates several fundamental ways of using the Blues Scale musically: moving through the ♭5 instead of resting on it, controlling the tension of the minor 3rd, and resolving phrases back to the root.

Try changing the ♭5 movement with a trill, bend, or slide, and experiment with repeating or shortening different parts of the phrase.

Anchor the Lick

This lick lives naturally inside Minor Pentatonic / Blues Scale Box 1, so continue using that shape as your visual anchor. Rather than seeing the lick as a separate pattern, try to recognize how each part comes directly from the scale you already know.

Why This Lick Is So Useful

This lick isn't just giving you notes; it's also teaching you how those notes behave in the blues.
