Welcome to Guitar Craft!

I'm Dr. Andre Fludd. I've been playing guitar for 20 years, but my true passion has always been teaching and learning.

My practice room has always been a lab where I tried to unlock the secrets of music and methods for better teaching. I've shared that knowledge in college courses, private lessons, academic research, and now via Guitar Craft.

Below you'll find one of my most popular lessons and more information about where you can connect with me.

 The Crucial Melodic Lesson

I take pride in creating lessons that will apply to all guitar players regardless of what music they play.

If I could give you only one lesson, it would be on rhythm because that is truly the most important aspect of all music. But since we play guitar, let's talk about the most important melodic concept for guitarists: the 7 primary modes.

WAIT! PLEASE HEAR ME OUT!

As a guitar player, you probably fall into one of three categories in regards to modes:

1) "I already know them," 2) "That's too complicated," 3) "I don't need them."

I promise that you've never learned the modes in this manner, and every guitarist will benefit from this material. Sure, it's common knowledge that jazz guitarists emphasize learning the modes, but Rock players like Joe Satriani, and even Metalheads like Josh Middleton of Sylosis also stress the significance of modes.

I do, however, believe the modes should be taught differently for guitarists. I call my approach "the Two Contexts of Modes," and it's explained in the video below. I've already heard great feedback.

"Wow! I knew about the modes, and always hear the names being thrown around on youtube, but no one (for me) has ever explained it like you did in this video! I really needed this...as I am learning to visualize the fretboard beyond the E & A string."  -Christina F.

The following video is from the Mastery Sequence on OneGuitarCourse.com

Long story short, the layout of the guitar allows us to learn a lot from modes:

-Fretboard visualization & Navigation

-Intervals

-Chords & Inversions

-Playing in all keys

-Lightening fast picking

-and more

The list practically goes on forever and it's specific to guitar education (unlike most other academic music lessons that use the piano as the base for comparison).
